Matthew Bishop 10/22/19                                                 Globalization and Cultural Diffusion- Blog #13 In class today we learned about cultural diffusion and the five types of it. Cultural diffusion is the process of spreading cultural traits from one region to another. There are 5 types of cultural diffusion. 1. Expansion Diffusion- An innovation or idea that develops in a source area and remains strong there, while spreading to other areas. 2. Relocation Diffusion- An idea or innovation that spreads to new areas, leaving its origin or source of the cultural trait behind them. 3. Hierarchical Diffusion- An idea or innovation that spreads by moving from larger to smaller places, often with little regard to the distance between places, and often influenced by social elites. 4. Globalization us defined as the process of interaction and integration among people, companies, and governments world wide. Globalization has grown throughout history due to advances of communication and transportation technology. Matthew Bishop 10/4/19                        Region: A Unique Area- Blog #10 Today in class, we defined region, formal region, functional region, and vernacular region. A region is defined by its uniform physical or human characteristics. A formal region is a region whose boundaries are formally defined. A functional region is is a region that usually encompasses a central point with defined boundaries and the area around it that is connected via a well-developed network of transportation and communication systems that facilitates the movement of people, goods, and ideas within that system. A vernacular region is places in the world that share unifying characteristics.
Matthew Bishop 9/30/19                                                     The 5 Themes of Geography- Blog #9 1. Definitions: Location, place, toponym, site, and situation. Location: A particular place or position. Place: A particular position in place or situation. Toponym: A place name, especially one derived from topographical feature. Site: An area of ground on which a town, building, or monument is constructed. Situation: The location and surroundings of a place. 2. The 3 ways human geographers describe location: Toponym, site and situation. 3. I would choose location C on the 1650 map. I would choose location C because it is near good farmland, near another community where trade is possible, and it is near the ocean where they have an increase in food. 4.
