Region: A Unique Area- Blog #10
Today in class, we defined region, formal region, functional region, and vernacular region. A region is defined by its uniform physical or human characteristics. A formal region is a region whose boundaries are formally defined. A functional region is is a region that usually encompasses a central point with defined boundaries and the area around it that is connected via a well-developed network of transportation and communication systems that facilitates the movement of people, goods, and ideas within that system. A vernacular region is places in the world that share unifying characteristics.
