                                                                  The Trojan War



-Fought around 1200 BCE
-Part of Greek mythology until the 19th century
-Historians thought it was fake because gods and godesses were involved
Meanwhile, "Sea People" and Dorians
-Around 1200 BCE, "sea people," invaded Mycenae and burnt palace after palace
- The Dorians moved into the wasteland from 1150- 750 BCE.
-Dorians were far less advanced
-Trade based economy collapsed
-Writing disappeared for 400 years
Enter Homer the Bard
-Greek oral tradition-stories passed on by word of mouth
-Homer lived at the end of these "Greek Dark Ages"
-Composed epics of the Trojan War
Did Homer Actually Exist?
-May have been a mythical creation himself
-A blind wandering minstrel; a heroic figure
-Iliad and Odyssey may be the culmination of many generations of storytelling

Matthew Bishop 6/1/20 What were the factors that led to the downfall of the Roman Republic? 1st Paragraph- When Rome was settled by Etruscans, Greeks, and the Latins they drained swamps into the Tiber river. Tarquin the Proud's Grandfather built the Cloaca Maxima, and this is indirectly the beginning of the Roman Republic. Tarquin the Proud ruled Rome very poorly, as he killed people and his family was just as bad. So after he is expelled from Rome, kings are replaced by consuls. Well this has already lead to the downfall of the Republic. Plebians are not happy, and they refused to serve in the military. This lead to Rome creating a legal code but than they go through the Punic Wars and this creates economic change where farmers lost their land, another reason of why the Republic was going downhill already. Matthew Bishop 4/21/20 Essay Question: Describe Alexander the Great's Relationship With His Horse First Paragraph: Describe how Alexander got the horse- Saw him in Macedonia at a play and approached him and mounted him. Second Paragraph- Describe what battles they went through together- Alexander rid him in every battle, from the conquest of the Greek-city states, to Battle of Gaugamela and India. Third Paragraph- What did Alexander do when Bucephalus got kidnapped- He promised to fell every tree, lay the countryside to waste, and slaughter every inhabitant to waste until he got him back. Fourth Paragraph- How did Bucepahlus die- It isn't exactly known but people claim he died from battle wounds or from old age. Fifth Paragraph- How did Alexander react to his horse's death- He founded a city in the horse's memory called Bucephala.

Matthew Bishop 3/25/20 Phillip 2: King Phillip 2 was the King of Spain, King of Portugal, King of Naples, and Sicily. He was also Duke of Milan. He led a highly debt- leveraged regime in 157, 1560, 1569, 1575, and 1596. He signed the Treaty of Joinville on 31 December 1584. He was the father of Alexander the Great. Alexander the Great: King of Macedon. He was born in Pella in 356 BC, and had the throne at 20 years old. By 30, he created one of the largest empires the world had seen at the time. This stretched from Greece to India. He was undefeated in battle. He overthrew Darius 3 and conquered the Achaemenid Empire. Darius 3: The last king of the Achaemenid Empire of Persia. Darisus was born in 380 BC, and died in July 330 BC, by his cousin Satrap Bessus. In 334 BC, Alexander the Great began his invasion of the Persian Empire, and defeated the Persians in a number of battles. They than destroyed their capital Persepolis, before going after Darius.
